St Martins Lutheran College

Our College at a Glance

A Place to Belong, Learn and Grow

Nestled in the heart of Mount Gambier, South Australia, St Martins Lutheran College is a thriving independent Christian school providing high-quality education for students from Reception to Year 12. With approximately 815 students, we are large enough to offer a broad range of opportunities while remaining small enough to ensure each student is known, supported, and valued.

As a college of the Lutheran Church of Australia, our educational philosophy is grounded in faith, community, and respect. We are committed to nurturing the spiritual, academic, and emotional growth of every child in our care.

Our campus offers a safe, welcoming environment where students are encouraged to explore their potential, grow in confidence, and develop the skills needed for lifelong learning. From dynamic classroom experiences to co-curricular and leadership opportunities, students are equipped to thrive in all aspects of life.

At St Martins, we pride ourselves on our strong sense of community, dedicated staff, and a values-based approach to education that supports the development of compassionate, capable, and curious learners.

Welcome to St Martins Lutheran College, a Reception to Year 12 school located in the beautiful city of Mount Gambier, South Australia. Established in 1982, we are a family friendly school with a strong sense of community, where everybody is valued for who they are as an individual and where student learning is at the heart of everything we do.

As a school of the Lutheran Church, our faith inspires us to care and to pursue learning with passion. We take pride in providing an education that develops all aspects of a student’s intellectual, spiritual, physical, creative and social character.

We pursue a student-centred approach to learning and recognise that each member of our community is unique. Our students are challenged to strive for personal and community excellence, so that they are well prepared for the challenges of tomorrow’s world.

Students are encouraged to develop an understanding of Christian living in keeping with our College values of: Respect, Compassion, Growth, Faith, Encouragement and Hope.

As our College Purpose states:

We are a welcoming, caring, Christ-centred learning community where students grow, flourish and are inspired to make a difference.

I invite you to visit St Martins and discover what makes our community so special.

Reception to Year 6 Village

A Foundation for Lifelong Learning

At St Martins Lutheran College, we believe that grounded and supported children thrive. Our Reception to Year 6 Village offers a warm and inclusive environment where strong relationships between students, families and staff are central to learning. Each child is known, valued and encouraged to grow.

We use evidence-based strategies to support emotional resilience and social development, helping students build confidence, manage emotions and form meaningful connections. Our approach blends classroom learning with hands-on experiences such as gardening, tinkering and cooking. These opportunities allow students to explore their creativity and develop a sense of accomplishment.

Programs such as the buddy system, student leadership opportunities and daily lunchtime clubs help foster a strong sense of community. Purposefully designed indoor and outdoor spaces, including a nature play area, veggie garden and the Gaga Pit, support wellbeing and inspire students to engage, collaborate and thrive.

Year 7 to Year 12 Village

Growing with Purpose

At St Martins Lutheran College, we create a supportive environment where every student from Year 7 to Year 12 is known, valued and cared for. Our structured wellbeing system provides personalised support that caters for each student’s academic and emotional needs, fostering resilience, connection and respect.

Daily check-ins with homegroup teachers and Wellbeing Leaders build strong relationships and a sense of belonging. Guided by the Berry Street Education Model, our wellbeing curriculum equips students with the tools to manage challenges, grow in confidence and build positive relationships.

Our secondary curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire, offering diverse subjects and real-world learning opportunities. Specialist facilities, including a commercial kitchen, music hub, science labs and a design and technology centre, support hands-on learning and encourage curiosity and innovation.

Together with families, we support students to thrive both personally and academically.

Join us on the journey of growth, discovery, and faith.

At St Martins Lutheran College, we offer more than just an education; we provide a community where students are known, valued, and supported to achieve their best. With a focus on academic excellence, personal growth, and spiritual development, St Martins is dedicated to nurturing confident, resilient young people who are prepared to make a positive impact on the world.

Our unique blend of strong Christian values, personalised wellbeing support, and a rich variety of extracurricular opportunities ensures that each student’s needs are met in a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Whether in our Reception to Year 6 Village or Year 7 to 12 Village, we take pride in offering a holistic approach to learning that fosters intellectual curiosity, creativity, and emotional intelligence.

We believe that a sense of belonging is key to every student’s success, which is why we prioritise strong relationships between students, families, and staff. Together, we work to empower each child to reach their full potential in all areas of life, academically, socially, and spiritually.
