Children who turn five before 1 May can start primary school at the beginning of the year

Children who turn five from 1 May to 31 October start school at the mid-year intake at the start of term 3 of that year.

Children who turn five after 31 October start school at the beginning of the following year.

How many terms will my child spend in Reception?

Term 1 intake: Children complete four terms of Reception before progressing to Year 1.

Term 3 intake: Children complete six terms of Reception before progressing to Year 1.

When should I enrol my child?

Applications for enrolment are accepted from birth. We encourage families to submit their child’s Application for Enrolment as early as possible once a decision has been made about their schooling.

Why offer a mid-year intake?

The Association of Independent Schools of South Australia allows independent schools to offer a mid-year Reception intake for children turning five before 31 October. This flexibility supports children’s learning and ensures they begin school when they are developmentally ready.

Is there a priority for how enrolments are selected?

Yes, the College follows a tiered system when processing enrolment applications. Priority is given in the following order:

  1. Date of application submission

2. Children of College staff members

3. Siblings of current students

4. Families affiliated with the Lutheran faith

5. Children of Old Scholars

When do school fees commence?

Annual school fees are invoiced at the beginning of the school year or upon commencement of enrolment. For students starting during the year, fees are calculated on a pro-rata basis. The first two terms of midyear reception are free. All families are required to complete a Direct Debit Payment Plan before their child commences. Payment options include weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or annually. Families who may be eligible for School Card assistance or who require financial support are encouraged to arrange a confidential meeting with our Senior Finance Officer or Business Manager.

Can non-Lutheran families enrol at St Martins?

Absolutely. St Martins Lutheran College warmly welcomes families from all faith backgrounds who wish to be part of our learning community. While we are a Lutheran school, enrolment is open to all students who support our values and educational vision, which is guided by Christian principles.

As part of the requirements set by Lutheran Education South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia (LESNW), all students are expected to participate in Worship, Christian Studies, and other faith-based activities. These elements are an integral part of the curriculum and are designed to promote reflection, respect, and a strong sense of community for all students.
