Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be participating in their NAPLAN assessments in the next two weeks (March 15th to 27th). The tasks will generally be done in their class groups, and we run catch up sessions for students who are absent on a given day.
At St Martins we try to take a balanced approach to the assessments. Students are encouraged to do their very best, as the results are valuable to our teachers as they plan for learning in the second half of this year and into next. At the same time, however, we do not want students to become overly anxious about NAPLAN. This is a fine line to walk, as we have some students who do need to take the tasks more seriously, whilst others need to not worry so much. We appreciate support from home on this, as you know your children best, and can support them as they need.
For their NAPLAN assessments, students in Years 7 and 9 will need to have a set of headphones or earbuds at school for the next two weeks. Year 5 students will use their classroom headphones, and Year 3 students will be provided with headphones or can bring their own from home.
It is really important that our Year 7 and 9 students ensure that their Chromebooks come to school fully charged, to reduce extra stress on test days from an uncharged device. Year 5 students will use their in-class Chromebooks for NAPLAN, whilst Year 3 will do a pencil and paper writing test and then use the computers in the Digi Tech room for their online tests.
Many thanks for your support as our students do their NAPLAN.
