Student Devices
St Martins has a commitment to ensuring that students develop in their digital literacies and capabilities throughout their time with us. Students in Years F-4 have access to iPads. Students in Years 5-7 have responsibility for a Chromebook which stays at school. Student entering Year 8 students and students enrolling in Years 8-10 are issued with a new Chromebook which can be taken home. Information about how this arrangement works can be found by clicking on the link to the Chromebook User Agreement below.
Chromebook User Agreement and Handbook 2022
Year 11 and 12 Students
At the completion of Year 10, St Martins will normally pass ownership of the Chromebook to families. For Year 11 and 12, students are welcome to either continue bringing this device, or transition to another device. Should families wish to purchase a new device then they can use this portal or source a suitable device themselves.
The devices on the portal represent the College’s recommendation for value-for-money devices suitable for equipping a student through Senior School and beyond. They are sourced through a reliable supplier and attract educational pricing and expedited warranty support. The Chromebook option is a great option for those who just need a device for researching and typing up documents. The Windows options will allow students to use additional software such as Photoshop, and the rest of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications if they are doing subjects that require this.
Families are welcome to purchase outside of the portal but are encouraged to make sure any purchased devices are of similar or superior specification as there are many inadequate devices available for less cost. Students might like a superior device if, for example, they plan on undertaking courses which have a requirement for greater computing power.
If purchasing through the portal then our recommendation is to carefully consider adding accidental damage/theft protection. Touch screen devices are more expensive to repair than non-touch screen devices. Your decision should take into account any cover you may already receive through personal home insurance.
The College’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy can be found below.
