On 24th and 25th November 2024, 49 students headed off for a 6 day trip to Canberra. It was a busy week, but we were blessed with excellent weather and some amazing places to visit. The educational experience enables students to understand more of Australia’s history, democracy and culture. On the trip to Parliament House, one group was able to listen to Anthony Albanese speak in the House of Representatives and were fortunate enough to have a visit from Tony Pasin, our local member. We also visited Government House, Old Parliament House, the National Capital Exhibition, Mt Stromlo Observatory and many more places. Our campsite was amazing, located next to the Murrumbidgee river. The students also loved Questacon and the trampoline park, ‘Flip-out’. For the most part, students even enjoyed the long bus trip because of the quality time spent with friends.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed $225 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. We are thankful to the Australian Government for this.
