Students excel at public speaking event

On Wednesday May 5, three students competed in the annual Rostrum Voice of Youth competition. Henry Martin and Eva Peucker in Year 8 participated in the Junior section, while Bethany
Coscarelli in Year 11 competed in the Senior Section.

Henry and Eva had to write a prepared speech of 6 minutes. Their speeches were interesting and entertaining and they delivered their ideas with confidence. In the Senior section, Bethany had to
write an 8 minute speech. She chose to deliver a thought-provoking speech about “life in colour”, urging the audience to celebrate the great variety of people and experiences around us.

The competition also requires contestants to write a 3 minute speech on the night. Students are given 3 topics to choose from and 15 minutes to plan a short speech. Henry and Eva both chose
to discuss a positive outcome, but interpreted the topic in different ways. Bethany decided to consider a range of historical figures who made a lasting impression, while also challenging the
audience to think about the need humans have to be remembered.

Henry, Eva and Bethany were fantastic ambassadors for the College and we look forward to sharing their future achievements!
