Welcome to Term 2. You will recall that our College theme for the year is: Have Courage; Rise up! This term, our College Worship Services are focusing on some of the stories of courage found in the bible. In fact, the bible is full of stories of great men and women who faced adversity and learnt through their struggles that God would help them.
Personally, I have lost count of the number of times I have faced challenges in life that appeared to be overwhelming. It is at such times I have turned to Jesus and asked him to provide me with the strength, capacity and wisdom to get through. This will be a common experience for many of us. It is on these occasions that we need to remind ourselves of Paul’s encouragement to us.
“We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”. Romans 8: 28
God uses many experiences in life to bring us closer to Him, especially the difficult times. It is only through such times that we can truly grow and develop courage. This means we need to face challenges rather than avoid them, in the knowledge that Jesus is there walking beside us. It requires us to trust that the struggles of today will strengthen us for tomorrow. We need to see every tough experience as an opportunity to learn, grow and flourish as a child of God in his service.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him”. James 1:12
Talking about courage, I am very pleased to report that the development of our new strategic plan for the next 3 to 5 years is progressing well. With the frank and honest input of students and parents
in Term 4 last year and the College Council and staff in Term 1 this year, we have arrived at a draft set of strategic priorities for the College and are now in the process of identifying what needs to be
done to achieve them. While the strategic priorities identified represent significant challenges, I have been greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm and energy displayed by both the College Council
and staff to tackle them.
On the facilities front, our extension to the Trade Training Centre is well underway. Once constructed, the extension will provide three new classrooms and more toilet facilities. In addition, our new Science Laboratory is also progressing. On the curriculum side, our new commercial kitchen (completed last year) is now being used for the teaching of Stage 1 and 2 Food and Hospitality and our very first Kitchen Operations VET Course. As you can imagine, it is proving to be a wonderful facility for our students.
To conclude, we have much to be grateful for as a College. I thank you for your ongoing prayers and support. I wish you God’s blessings for the term ahead.
