St Martins offering Reception mid-year intake from Term 3, 2024

From Term 3 2024, St Martins Lutheran College will be offering two Reception intakes per year.

Research has shown the benefit of high quality early learning and care experiences for children in their first 1,000 days of life, and in the years prior to school.

Students commencing in Reception or starting school for the first time must;

  • turn five years of age on or before 30 April of that year to start at the beginning of Term 1.
  • turn five years of age between 1 May and 31 October to start in Term 3 of that year, or Term 1 of the following year.

This full-time program will pre-empt the first formal year of schooling. There will be a strong focus on oral literacy, numeracy and inquiry through a play-based learning approach. Children will develop their sense of belonging and connection with the world around them through social play and problem solving, readying them for the following year. Within an environment of wonder and curiosity children will have opportunities to enhance their skills in communication, discovery, imagination and creativity.

Children will also enjoy specialist lessons in music, movement, technology, Auslan and Library. They will have the opportunity to borrow books to read for pleasure at home and embrace that playful love of reading and storytelling.

Students who start in Term 3 are likely to spend 6 Terms in Reception before progressing to Year 1.

FREE tuition for mid-year starters

Reception students who join as part of the mid-year intake at St Martins will get free tuition in Terms 3 and 4 of that year. This initiative hopes to reduce some of the financial burden on families. This free intake includes tuition fees and compulsory charges. It excludes uniforms and extra-curricular costs.

Enrolments in all year levels are accepted throughout the year.
