On Monday 12 September, 28 students from Year 9 to 12 attended the Flinders University Rural Health Society (FURHS) careers in health workshop at Flinders University in Mount Gambier. The workshop was presented by current Flinders University students interested in rural and regional health that are studying in areas such as Medical Science, Nursing, Optometry, Health Sciences and Medicine. Students participated in different practically based activities including hand hygiene and using gloves, taking blood pressure, nutrition and food labelling, understanding eye conditions and understanding blood flow. At the end of the workshop there was an opportunity for questions about university life where topics such as living arrangements, scholarships, choosing courses and balancing work and study were discussed.
